window covers
so we wanted to make window covers that would give us some privacy and help keep the van a bit warm in the cold, and cool in the hot sun. we had made window covers out of reflectix for previous builds, but anytime we see reflectix on a van parked on the street, we assume someone is sleeping inside. we wanted to make this covers a little more stealth — to black out the outside of the windows and look like super dark tint instead of a grow-lab… also, this would add durability to the covers overall and let them be able to snap or magnet into each window.
so our basic idea was a black outer fabric, reflectix inside the cover for insulation and a bit of rigidity, and the blue quilted fabric on the inside for a nice homey feel and some brightness of color. our first step was to make a pattern of each window using newspaper. once the patterns were made, we cut each window out of each fabric and the reflectix layer.
we decided to cut the reflectix into strips and sew baffles into the larger covers to help them fold easier, the smaller front window covers would fold pretty easily without any baffles. the finishing touch was a border, and adding tabs with magnets in them to the front side covers and snaps the the front windshield, mid window, and rear window.
